Mumbles under 8s

Directions to Swansea Uplands

For the U8s on Sunday 4th November. The Swansea Uplands club is on Fairwood Lane, Upper Killay. It takes about 10-15 mins from Mumbles.

Go up Sketty Lane and turn left onto Gower Road (A4118 signposted Gower). Drive along Gower Road for just over 1.5 miles. When you get into Upper Killay, Fairwood Lane is on the left, directly off Gower Road (it is the left turn after the Summerland Park left turn). The club and pitches are at the bottom of the lane.

Please be there for 10:00. As usual I will go to the car park at Underhill at 9:30, for about 10 mins, to round up anyone unsure of the arrangements.

See Google Map for details.

Game against Swansea Uplands

I have just spoken to the Swansea Uplands about Sunday and unfortunately they only have enough players for one team.

In which case, we will just play our U8s this week. There will be no training, unless an U7 Dad (or Mum) wants to take them. We can provide all the equipment for training and some suggestions of course.

U8s meet at Swansea Uplands for 10am, aiming for 10.30am start.

Further comment on U7s this weekend

I would just like to add my comment to what Mike said.

The team we played against had 5 boys playing up in their U9s, so this is why they were not able to field two teams as originally promised, plus they had only one coach.

I am indebted to Lyndon who took U7s off (and his cones). Given he coaches not only at Birchgrove School (where he is head of PE) during the week and Llandovery in the Premiership in the evenings and Saturdays, his input is invaluable.

I shall be contacting Swansea Uplands this week to find out their situation.

In terms of the game itself, we had so little of the ball, that is was very difficult to develop some of the ideas we have been trying to explore.

Ten-a-side on a wet pitch is never going to be very satisfactory, but there were sparks of what we wanted to play.

Waunarlwydd Match Report

Captained by Dominic Marquis this morning, the U8s revisited the scene of quite a hiding last year. So to come away with a 6-2 win was fantastic. Ben Cambriani (hat-trick) and Rhys opened the scoring. Free-flowing rugby was impossible as the game got stuck in the mud and it took Dom's first try of the season and Tom L to seal the win, both overcoming the conditions to jink through, with the pace to leave the defence grasping at thin air. Jack and Rhys went agonisingly close to scoring again. Aled, Tom G, Thomas, Ben M and Cameron enjoyed the mud bath, and Jack Dando put in some great tags on his Mumbles debut.

Apologies to U7s team

It was a real shame this morning not to have an U7s game. Especially after so many made the effort to turn up in the rain. We were acting on the information we received last week from the club, so either there were crossed wires or they simply didn't have enough players on the day.

Next week is Swansea Uplands, away. We will try our best to get absolutely firm details from them, one way or another, in the next couple of days, and will post the information here straight after. Thanks to everyone for being understanding.

U8s and U7s Matches Away at Waunarlwydd, Sunday 28th October

For this Sunday, either go straight to Waunarlwydd RFC and meet us there at 10:00, or if you are unsure of directions, we will meet up at the Underhill Car Park at 9:30 (and wait for about 10 mins before heading off). As usual we will try and get the U7 game underway at 10:30 and the u8s as soon as possible afterwards. So please be on time.

Directions to Waunarlwydd RFC : It takes 15-20 minutes from Mumbles. The clubhouse and ground is on Roseland Road. From Mumbles Road, turn left onto the A4216 up to Sketty. Go through Sketty, heading towards Fforestfach (all on A4216). As you are heading down the hill through Cockett (passed the police station) get in the left hand lane. At the lights, instead of heading back up the hill towards Forestach, take the left turn (sign posted Waunarlwydd) onto Cwmbach Road (B4295). After about 1.5 miles, you come to Waunarlwydd. Turn right into Roseland Road. The club is on the right, just after the railway bridge.

See you Sunday.

Wednesday Training and Away Matches Coming Up

With the nice weather continuing (kiss of death), training at Underhill as usual on Wednesday 24th October at 5:00 - 6:00.

Starting at Waunarlwydd this week the team embark on 3 tough weeks on the road. So please, please, keep an eye on this Blog. It is by far the easiest way for us to put the information out. But we will have the system tested in the next couple of weeks for sure...

Directions and times for Waunarlwydd (Sunday 28th October) will be posted here later today. We are then off to Swansea Uplands (04 Nov) and Gowerton (11 Nov) and we don't return to Underhill on a Sunday until the 18th Nov (Wednesday practices should continue as normal).

Waunarlwydd will host both the U8s and U7s. So everyone is welcome this Sunday.

Remember you can post comments and questions to the coaches on this Blog - and please try and liase with the parents you know to make sure they are in the loop.

Penclawdd Match Report

Another busy morning and two games to report on.

The U7s are developing so quickly. Everyone had half a game, and we had very first tries for Mumbles from Megan, Will and Liam, adding to a classy hat-trick from Jake. Ava showed the boys how its done by taking the rough tackles (I thought this was supposed to be tag?) with no nonsense and getting right on with it. Mumbles match debuts from Ethan andJames. Great running and tagging from Tal, Cai, Sean, Tomasz, Thomas, Ioan, Elias, Freddie, and Iestyn. Final score 6 – 8. Things to work on next time: lining up quickly in defence.

Ben Cambriani captained the U8s this morning, and they found Penclawdd a good side and hard to break down. With some great passing (have these boys actually been listening in training!) they eventually ran out 6 - 4 winners. Rhys and Ben’s braces top and tailed by the Toms. A first try of the season for Tom Gravenor opened the scoring and late try by Tom Langford sealed the win. Well done to all the boys for their passing, tagging and running: Jack, Thomas, Aled, Max, Ben M, Dom, Harry, James, Ben H, Cam, Matthew (first game of the new season – good to see you back) and Cian (fitting in very well in his Mumbles debut).

I hope that covers it. If I have missed out any details or scorers please feel free to add a comment on the Blog. Just have to finally say many thanks go to the Penclawdd team, coach and supporters. Junior rugby as it should be.
